Every spring, hundreds of sheep are driven from different regions of Tyrol into the remote alpine pastures along the Austrian-German border.
These steep, high-altitude slopes in the Tyrolean part of the Allgäu Alps are among the few remaining areas where traditional shepherding is still practiced.
From early May to mid-September, Carmen – a Tyrolean shepherd – lives and works up here, moving with the herd through fog, rain, and sun.

This project documents several years of alpine life – not from the perspective of the shepherd, but through the lens of someone who joined her whenever he could.
Behind the visible story lies another – one of closeness, distance, and the echo of something once shared.
But some stories are not told. They’re just carried.
